A perpetuated heritage

This orchestra, faithful to the baroque history of the Principality, defends the most beautiful pages of music from the XVII-XVIII century repertoire, while striving to recreate forgotten or unknown works that, by the hundreds, abound in the landscape Baroque music. All the instrumentalists play on period instruments, tuned to historical tuning forks.


Attached to its roots, the Ensemble lives however with its time and was placed in 2013 under the direction of Matthieu Peyrègne, singer and conductor specialist of ancient music. This formation wishes to honor the memory of the Prince Antoine the 1st of Monaco, who reigned at the beginning of the XVIIIth century. He shared his passion for baroque music with his friend King Louis the XIVth, with whom he exchanged regularly. Monaco was a must for artists and composers traveling between France and Italy. Faithful to this history, the Ensemble Baroque de Monaco specializes in French and Italian Baroque music.

For example, his recent performances of the Giacomo Carissimi 's Messe de l'homme armé for 4 choirs of whose world recreation gave rise to a tour of concerts in 2015, or his performances of the most beautiful pages of the lyric tragedy such as Indes Galantes de Rameau or Armida de Lully. As well as his recent recording of the last oratorio of Alessandro Scarlatti dicsovered and edited by Matthieu Peyrègne, Alessandro Scarlatti's l'Assunzione della Beata Vergine. This recordine was critically-acclaimed, particularly by the french revue Diapason which awarded it with the "5 Diapasons" high reward. The Princess of Hanover sent her personnal thanks for this worldwide success entreprise.



During the past half century, the music publishing house "L'Oiseau Lyre" has kept on resurrecting number of vocal and instrumental works of the baroque period. She published many scores, baroque treasures wealth of sources hitherto forgotten or neglected.

The memory of that entity whose European headquarters has persisted since the 50s until 2013 on the Rock, is and remains the heart and soul of baroque music lovers in Monaco. L'Ensemble Baroque de Monaco is closely linked to the publishing house. The direction of the latter and its former president, the Master harpsichordist Kenneth Gilbert, wanted to create a close link with the Ensemble Baroque de Monaco who, playing numerous works offered by the prestigious publishing house, perpetuate its memory. In keeping with the Baroque history of the Principality,the EBM defends the most beautiful pages of music from the XVIIth and XVIIIth repertoire, while striving to recreate the forgotten or unknown works which fill the landscape of the baroque music.


All the musicians play on original instruments, tuned in the historical temperaments. Attached to its roots, however the Ensemble Baroque de Monaco moves with the times. Placed in 2012 under the direction of Matthieu Peyrègne, singer and conductor and early music specialist, the EBM wants to assert its high quality identity working, giving with this conductor a new impulse and dynamic. It has in the ranks of this training the best people who worked in Monaco. For example, the harpsichordist and Knight of the Order of Merit in Monaco is Camille Mugot.With its large instrumental forces, this training is also well able to give large-scale works such operas or symphonies, as coins and smaller instrumental training.

The Ensemble Baroque de Monaco makes also vocal concerts with specialized in early music singers, coming from the best french ensembles  (Les Arts Florissants, Chœur de Chambre de Namur, Concert Spirituel, Doulce Mémoire…).


Monaco have hosted in his land the greatest baroque composers at his time, this orchestra is part of a desire to be the ambassador, and the living memory of a historical period and cultural incredibly rich.

The conductor, Matthieu Peyrègne


Singer and conductor, Matthieu Peyrègne was firstly graduated with honors as violinist at the Nice Conservatoire National de Musique. He also studied orchestra and choir conducting, for which he was also graduated with honors.


Having always loved baroque music, he studied baroque singing with Monique Zanetti at the conservatoire of Aix-en-Provence, and with Claire Brua in Nice, for which he got two diplomas.


He worked on renaissance and baroque polyphonic repertoires with Denis Raisin Dadre (Ensemble Doulce Mémoire) and Dominique Vellard (Ensemble Gilles Binchois) at the Thoronet abbey and at the Schola Cantorum of Basel (Switzerland) where he continued his training with Richard Levitt, teacher of  Andreas Scholl. Matthieu Peyrègne regularly performs as a soloist during recitals, with internationally known artists (Huguette Grémy-Chaulliac, Jean-Louis Charbonnier, Herve Lamy, Fabrice di Falco, ...). He was finalist of the International Competition of Sacred Song of Rome in 2014. He sings with the most prestigious vocal ensembles such as Les Arts Florissants (William Christie and Paul Agnew), Les Talents Lyriques (Christophe Rousset), l’ensemble Doulce Mémoire (Denis Raisin Dadre) with whom he recorded the CD dedicated to Claude Lejeune in 2017, the ensemble Correspondances (Sébastien Daucé), Consonances (François Bazola), Marguerite Louise (Gaétan Jarry), ...


As a conductor, Matthieu Peyrègne plays all the repertoires, starting from the baroque music of which he made his great speciality, to the contemporary music he worked alongside with Nicole Corti in the Britten Choir (Lyon-France).


He is also artistic director of the Confé-Concerts, annual cycle of events taking place throughout the french riviera, whose goal is to discover and share his passion for classical music through concerts, having now attracted more than 12,000 spectators since its creation in 2010 !
